Fuel attendant allegedly absconds with employers N100,000

A 23-year-old fuel attendant, Faith Emeka, who allegedly absconded with her employer’s N100, 000 from sale of petrol, was on Tuesday docked before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Emeka, who resides at No. 46, Itsekiri St., Ajuwon, Ogun, is being tried for stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Essien Ndarake, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 28 at Conoil Filling Station, Fagba, Iju, Agege, Lagos.

Ndarake said the accused sold 1,156 litres of petrol valued at N100, 000 between the hours of 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. and disappeared with the money.

“The accused sold fuel within five hours and disappeared with the money to unknown destination.

“All efforts made by the management of the filling station to find and retrieve the money proved unsuccessful as she refused to pick her calls.

“She was later arrested with the aid of her roommate but the money was not recovered,’’ he said.

Ndarake said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 provides that if convicted, the accused is liable to three years imprisonment.

The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje adjourned the case to April 12 for mention.
