The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Plateau has said that its Mobile Court has been a vital tool to check unqualified drivers and vehicles from plying the highways.

The state Public Education Officer of the commission, Mr Andrew Bala, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Sunday.

According to him, the mobile court activity has been a vital tool that the corps was using to reduce the number of unqualified drivers and vehicles from plying highways.

“Mobile court proceeding has given our men on patrol the opportunity to charged traffic offenders and they are given a fair hearing when arrested.’’

Bala said 29 motorists were convicted for various traffic offences by the court during its routine patrol exercise within the Jos-Bukuru area on Saturday.

“We actually apprehended 31 offenders but the court discharged two and convicted 29.

“Some of the prevalent offences are seat belt violation, driver’s licence violation, use of phone while driving and use of worn out tyres.

“Others are overloading, vehicle licence violation, lack of fire extinguishers and caution signs,’’ he said.
