FRSC-2-620x400THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded a total number of 165 road crashes between January and June this year.

A report made available to The Guardian revealed that 78 of the crashes occurred between January and March, while 87 crashes occurred between April and June.

A total number of 545 people were involved in the first quarter, while 557 people were involved in the second quarter. Out of this figure, 25 people lost their lives in the first quarter while 23 people died in the second quarter.

The Lagos State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Hyginus Omeje, while speaking at a Youth Safety Education programme, expressed serious concern over increase in road crashes and identified over-speeding, alcohol consumption and use of fairly used tyres as some of the causes of road accidents.

Road users, he noted, should endeavor to buy brand new tyres, avoid drunk driving and over-speeding.
