Free IPOB leader, Kanu; rights group charges Buhari

A pro-democracy and non-governmental organisation, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has again urged President Muhammadu Buhari to cease from what it calls “persistent political persecution” of leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

HURIWA also called for negotiated and peaceful resolution through constructive dialogue.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director, Miss Zainab Yusuf, the group noted the reported success of the September 23, 2016 “stay-at-home” order issued by IPOB and its affiliates in the Southeast.

HURIWA noted that the impact of the order “is a clear demonstration of the urgent need for meaningful and constructive dialogue towards a peaceful resolution to the groundswell of agitations for self-determination.”
