Flood kills one, another drowns in River

Tragedy struck in Akure, Ondo State capital, as a commercial motorcyclist Mr. Idowu Akomolafe was killed by flood, while one Abiodun Olomiye reportedly drowned in a river.

Tragedy struck in Akure, Ondo State capital, as a commercial motorcyclist Mr. Idowu Akomolafe was killed by flood, while one Abiodun Olomiye reportedly drowned in a river.

The Guardian gathered that the late Akomolafe was swept off by a strong current of flood at Ijoka area of Akure, when returning home from work late on Friday evening.

According to sources, the heavy rain had caused huge flood in the area, making it extremely difficult for road users to navigate.  

One of the sources revealed that Akomolafe’ lifeless-body was found by the roadside on Saturday morning.

The other victim, Olomiye got drowned while swimming in a river in Uso town, Owo Local Government on Friday evening too.  

A source in Uso recounted that Olomiye went to swim in the river but did not come out alive. “It was through the help of the local swimmers that his corpse was recovered after several hours of search.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incidents, disclosing the command had begun investigations into the matter to unravel the causes of the deaths.
