AFCON 2015 kicks off Saturay but many top stars will be missing in action. Here are some of these top stars who are not in Equatorial Guinea.

1.  Didier Drogba (Cote d’Ivoire)

Former Cote d’Ivoire captain won’t feature at AFCON 2015 due to retirement. He is one of the best strikers to have come out of Africa. The Chelsea forward captained the Elephants to finish runners-up in the Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2006 and 2012. He has scored 65 goals in 104 games for Cote d’Ivoire.

 2. Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria)

The Nigeria captain is unarguably the best goalkeeper in Africa and among the best in the world today. He was named Africa’s third best player for 2014 at the CAF awards.

The best goalkeeper in France for 2013 and 2014 will miss the AFCON 2015 because the defending champions, Nigeria, failed to qualify.

3.  Victor Wanyama (Kenya)

The midfielder has been in good form for Southampton in the English Premier League will not be part of the 2015 AFCON after Kenya again failed to qualify for Africa’s biggest football event. Wanyama, who was outstanding playing for Celtic before he moved to the EPL, could not help his team secured the qualification. He has been a consistent performer in EPL this season.

4.   Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo)

The Tottenham Hotspur and Togo captain is one of the finest strikers the continent could boast of. He will miss AFCON 2015 because his team could not secure the qualification ticket as they finished bottom of the table.

He has scored 29 goals in 63 games for Togo.

5.  Samuel Eto’o (Cameroun)

The most decorated African footballer has retired from international football and will miss AFCON 2015. He is a striker of high repute and prolific in front of goal. He will be missed in Equatorial Guinea.

He won the AFCON twice – 2000 and 2002. Eto’o scored 56 goals in 118 international caps.
