Firm donates 10,000 doses of deworming drugs to Obasanjo foundation

Nigeria’s primary healthcare programme received a boost recently as Tyonex Group donated 10,000 doses of deworming drugs to the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Managing Director/CEO of Tyonex Group,Emmanuel Tyohemba Agba, presented the Albendazole tablets to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta. According to Agba, the donation was in fulfillment of Tyonex’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and a modest contribution to the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF). He said the Tyonex Albendazole tablets were useful for the mass deworming of children under 15 years.

Obasanjo, who established the foundation in 2014 to fight non-communicable diseases, applauded Agba for the gesture, which he said would be utilized to spur the promotion of girl child health and education in the country.

Speaking after the presentation, Agba praised Obasanjo’s enduring leadership role in the country, adding, “I am confident that His Excellency will bring the same leadership qualities to the fight against non-communicable diseases through his foundation. I commend his initiative. As a leading healthcare service and products provider, we are pleased to lend our support and identify ourselves with such a worthy and noble cause.”

He noted that studies by the World Health Organisation (WHO) have discovered that there was ample evidence to demonstrate why school-age children under five-year-olds should be regularly dewormed, noting that worms aggravate malnutrition, anaemia, stunted growth and retard in both physical and cognitive development.
