An early morning fire outbreak has gutted a 22-room building in Port Harcourt, destroying property valued at several millions of Naira.

An early morning fire outbreak has gutted a 22-room building in Port Harcourt, destroying property valued at several millions of Naira.

The tragic incidence, which started in the wee hours of yesterday morning took place at Dim Street, Mile 3, Diobu in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.

Some residents who live close to the affected building said they were woken from sleep by a loud explosion, which led to the raging fire. All the rooms in the building were gutted by fire and the properties, destroyed. It was gathered that some of the occupants had travelled for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

In order to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining buildings, residents of the street trooped out to extinguish the fire but to no avail, until firefighters and policemen arrived to put out the fire.
