FG to declare emergency in water supply sector
Worried about declining access to potable water, the Federal Government may declare an emergency in the sector. The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, has disclosed.
He spoke at the second national retreat on action plan for the revitalisation of the Nigeria water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector.
He lamented crisis in the water and sanitation sectors, and called for more private and public investments.
Adamu also canvassed strategy that would revitalise and sustain both the urban and national water sectors.
He said a World Bank report on the issue made the plans more necessary.
The report, he said, raised concern about decline in the quality of sustainable water supply system across the country.
The minister pledged commitment to the implementation of an action plan, which includes clarification of roles of stakeholders, capacity building and institutionalising sanitation as counterpart to water supply.
