FG directs MDAs to set up budgetary allocations for counter-terrorism activities

The Federal Government has directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to immediately set up budgetary allocations for counter-terrorism activities ongoing in the country.

National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja at the opening ceremony of a three-day quarterly meeting and training workshop on National Counter-Terrorism Strategy (NACTEST), which his office organised in conjunction with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

Monguno, represented by Brig.-Gen Emmanuel Ndahi, said the development was the fall-out of the review of national counter-terrorism strategy carried out by his office.

The NSA, who stated that the Federal Government, through the Office of the National Security Adviser, reviewed the strategy as part of efforts required to tackle the menace of terrorism, said: “NACTEST is a call for action to all national and state MDAs, including non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and all well-meaning Nigerians, to consciously take up their roles as outlined in the strategy.

“Towards actualising this, MDAs are encouraged to make budgetary provisions for carrying out NACTEST activities. The Office of the National Security Adviser stands ready to collaborate with any MDAs, including through facilitating contacts with resource persons both local and foreign.

“We must all work together identifying our crucial and collaborating towards achieving the desired objectives of securing our nation against terrorist groups and other criminalities.

“I therefore wish to call on all other MDAs to follow the example of NIMASA in not only setting up NACTEST desks and designating Desk Focal Point Officers, but should take practical steps towards implementation of the strategy consistent with their mandates.”

Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Peterside Dakuku, represented by Ali Ndabawa at the event, said that every effort in the fight against terrorism no matter how insignificant it may appear, goes a long way in the overall success of our counter-terrorism strategy.
