FCT minister canvasses more support for government’s programmes, policies

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Musa Bello, has admonished residents of the FCT to continue to support government’s programmes and policies designed for the benefit and wellbeing of Nigerians.

Bello gave the charge yesterday in his New Year message to the residents of the Territory in Abuja, saying support for government’s policies would only ensure their success, which will ultimately be enjoyed by majority of the citizens

He said no government policy was put in place to inflict hardship on the people, insisting that all government programmes and policies were conceived, formulated and implemented for the benefit of the populace.

Describing the outgoing year as very important and significant in the socio-political development of Nigeria due to the general elections and other events, the minister expressed gratitude to the residents for their cooperation and peaceful conduct during the elections and complementary events.

He said, “2019 was an important year in the socio-political development of the country because of the 2019 general elections, which culminated in an unforgettable Democracy Day celebrations.

“I thank residents for their peaceful conduct and for being exemplary hosts to the foreign dignitaries who were in the FCT for the event.”

He reminded them that residents should maintain their show of benevolence if the FCT was to consolidate on its rising profile as Africa’s conference tourism hub.

Meanwhile, as the world ushers in a new decade, Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Garba Abari, enjoined Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to reflect on Nigeria’s journey of nationhood, especially in the last decade.

He said in doing so, they should see the new year as another opportunity to continue to contribute meaningfully to nation-building in the next decade and beyond.

While congratulating Nigerians in a New Year message for their resilience through the last decade, which saw a peaceful transition of government despite predictions of doom, Abari commended the patriotism, nationalism, service, and devotion of Nigerians to the nation.

He noted that without the sacrifices of patriots through successive generations, the country would not have survived until today.

Abari added that the years ahead for Nigeria as a nation hold greater glory for the country and therefore sought deeper reflection and repositioning from all Nigerians to end vices that have plagued the nation in the past.
