There was palpable tension in Ekiti State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, as the ward congress of the party was characterised by allegation of rigging.

It was learnt that the aspirants from Senator Abiodun Olujimi’s camp coasted to victory while those belonging to Fayose’s caucus lost in all the 177 wards across the state due to alleged combined efforts of forces of Olujimi, Duro Faseyi, aggrieved party elders and stakeholders.

It was further learnt that teeming party members in their large number were mobilised and kept vigil at the Guest House as all efforts to force their way into where Fayose allegedly lodged were rebuffed by security operatives at the hotel.

Olujimi, while speaking with newsmen, alleged that the members of the committee led by the Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Haruna Manu, compromised to manipulate the process for Fayose’s aspirant.

But Fayose’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, denied allegation of writing results of the ward congress, saying: “The Olujimi and her loyalists invaded the lodge of the congress committee with the aim of hijacking the materials.

“It was those who came from Abuja for the congress that lodged at Petim Guest House.”

He denied that the former governor was at the guest house when they laid siege to the place, saying that his principal “even called senators Olujimi and Duro Faseyi to inform them that he was in his house at Afao, telling them jokingly that they could eat and drink in the hotel while waiting in vain for him at Petim.”

“If they deflated vehicle tyres, it is their headache and if police arrested them, they would answer for that. My vehicle was not there as being alleged. My vehicle is not even in Ekiti, I came from Abuja by flight, I have no vehicle in Ekiti. And I have not been to Petim in the last two years”, he said.

Olayinka added that the PDP ward congress appeal panel would sit to attend to complaints over Saturday’s ward congress in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, March 12, 2020.

He, therefore, urged those with complaints to approach the appeal panel.
