Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose yesterday alleged that the Federal government was plotting to get him removed from office at all cost.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the governor said that the plan is being pursued vigorously with the use of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intimidate, harass and detain indefinitely, his Chief of Staff and some of his other close aides.

The aim of doing so, he claimed, is to ensure that the people to be arrested are forced to make false incriminating statements against him, and use Sam as a pedestal to launch a strong attack against him and get him removed from office by all means before the expiration of his tenure.

The governor said that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Ekiti State, whose name he didn’t mention, allegedly working with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) were the arrow heads of the plot.

The governor said the new tactics of the government was to link him and his aides to the distribution of campaign funds for the 2015 presidential election, as well as, probing his own source of fund for the 2014 governorship election.

“I called you here to intimate the public through your various medium, the new clandestine plot by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government to destabilise the Ekiti State Government, using the instrumentalities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),” Fayose said.

“A few days ago, we got it on good authority that there was a meeting with some politicians from Ekiti State, including an Ekiti-born Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and self-professed human rights activist by agents of the Federal government, with the agenda solely, on how to bring down my administration as the governor of the state.

“Activities of these elements that are obviously afraid of facing another electoral defeat in 2018 are being coordinated through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Babachir Lawal and the Attorney General of the Federation,” he alleged.

Fayose continued: “Certain top functionaries of the Ekiti State Government and some important members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, and some associates of mine, have now been pencilled down for arrest and indefinite detention by the EFCC under the guise of investigating the funds spent by the PDP on the June 21, 2014 governorship election and the Presidential election.”

“The game plan is to make those to be arrested get detained indefinitely, forced to make statements incriminating me, while at the same time feeding the public with orchestrated fake reports, using their usual media organs.”
