Fayose advises youths against being used for election rigging

• NYSC inducts 2018 Batch ‘A’ corps members nationwide
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, yesterday advised youths, particularly corps members serving in the state not to allow themselves to be used as tools for election rigging in the state’s governorship election.

He described the Nigerian youths as the best in the world, lamenting that the under-privileged among them have had to struggle hard to make it in an environment that lacks viable and equal opportunities.

Governor Fayose who told the 2,300 corps members deployed to Ekiti during their swearing in ceremony at Ise-Ekiti orientation camp, said Nigerian leaders believe strongly in them, their industry and strength of character amid daunting socio-economic odds.

He urged them to keep hope alive as new, younger and energetic leaders would soon emerge to improve their lot.

However, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has admitted the 2018 Batch ‘A’ corps members into its one-year mandatory service across the country.

Reports from the states indicate that 2,300 corps members who were posted to Benue State took their oath at the permanent NYSC Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Council, where Governor Samuel Ortom assured them of adequate security despite security challenges in the country and parts of the state.

State Chairman, NYSC Governing Board, Professor Jonathan Ueve, and state coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Eno Herbert Awakessien, commended the batch ‘A’ corps members posted to the state for their discipline and patriotism in camp.

Also, the NYSC yesterday appealed to the Kaduna State government to build and furnish additional hostel blocks and staff quarters at state permanent orientation camp.

The state coordinator, Dahunsi Mohammed, made the appeal, saying the initiative would enable the scheme to deploy more corps members to the state, including medical doctors, who would address inadequacy in the state’s health sector.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson has said the NYSC scheme was central to the unity and integration of the country and therefore called on the Federal Government to sustain the programme.

Dickson made the disclosure at the swearing-in-ceremony of 1,550 corps members of the 2018 Batch ‘A’ service year at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Kaiama in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Council of the state.
