Ex-gov Nyako in EFCC custody
FORMER governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with allegations of fraud while in office.
Information gathered by The Guardian indicate that the former governor who has been on the run since July 15 last year when he was impeached, yesterday submitted himself to the EFCC at its headquarters in Abuja around 10.am, hoping to leave immediately to attend a rally organised by his supporters in Yola. But he was yet to be released as at press time.
It would be recalled that Murtala Nyako was in February declared wanted by the EFCC alongside his son, Abdulaziz, who was later arrested same month because N15 billion state funds were allegedly traced to five of his companies.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren had informed journalists in February that father and son were “both wanted in a case of criminal conspiracy, stealing, abuse of office and money laundering.”
Uwujaren could not be reached on phone yesterday as at press time.
