EU launches €26.5m initiative to support democracy in Nigeria
The European Union (EU) yesterday launched €26.5million initiative to promote transparent, inclusive and credible elections in Nigeria.The EU head of delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ketil Karlsen, said in Abuja that the overall objective of the EU-SDGN is to contribute to the re-enforcement of democracy in the country.
According to him, this would be done through building strong effective and legitimate democratic institutions. The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, assured the EU of credible polls in 2019.He said the commission would not relent in its efforts to ensure credible elections in 2019 and beyond.
