The Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo has announced a budget estimate of N2.7 billion for the 2015 fiscal year.

The Acting Chairman of the council, Mr Busari Yesufu, presented the 2015 budget to council’s legislative arm on Wednesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2015 budget is N1.1 million less than the 2014 budget which was N3.8 billion.

A breakdown of the budget showed that N1.4 billion was earmarked for capital expenditure, while N1.3 billion was set aside for recurrent expenditure.

According to him, the 2015 budget christened “Budget of Reconstruction’’, is aimed at ensuring that the needed developments reach the rural populace.

“The set objective is to ensure that the infrastructural developments are achieved for the benefit of the greater number of our people by ensuring that all lost hopes are regained in Etsako West.

“We are resolute in ensuring that there is equitable distribution of government amenities across the 12 wards of the local government area,’’ he said.

The chairman gave the highlights of the budget as follows: The provision of electricity, agricultural inputs, water, health and infrastructure development and payment of salaries and pensions.

In her remarks, the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Mrs Habibat Yakubu, pledged to ensure quick consideration and passage of the 2015 appropriation bill.

“We on our part assure you of speedy passage of the budget and we want you as the acting chairman on your part to ensure its speedy implementation,’’ Yakubu said.

Yakubu urged the acting chairman to take development nearer to the people for the social-economic transformation to manifest in the local government area.
