Enugu PDP aspirants reconcile, opt to work for party’s victory

The winning chances of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State appear to have brightened.

This follows the resolve by aggrieved aspirants in the National Assembly primaries to work for the party’s victory in the upcoming polls.

Addressing newsmen after a meeting with the PDP Reconciliation Committee, former state chairman of the party, Vita Abba, said the decision was based on the uncommon leadership style of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

A senatorial aspirant from Enugu West Senatorial District, O.A.U Onyema, added: “Basically, all rancour within the PDP in Enugu State have been resolved with this reconciliation meeting.” We have agreed to work together and ensure that the party, being supreme, will deliver all its candidates in tandem with our policy in Enugu State.”

He urged all their supporters to embrace peace and understand that the people they are following have understood the activities and accepted the olive branch extended to us by Ugwuanyi.

“Come 2019 elections, all our candidates will be delivered from the House of Assembly, governor, to the senatorial seats,” he said.

Also speaking, Prof. David Ngene, from Enugu East Senatorial zone, said the aspirants were satisfied with the peace moves by the party.

He said: “We are people that contested for Senate and House of Representatives primaries of our great party in Enugu State. We felt that there were some grievances, but our governor decided that a reconciliation committee should be set up. From that decision, every issue has been sorted out.

“We are strongly behind him, not just because of his amiability, but also his power to bring people together.”

Others who spoke included Mr. Jude Asogwa from Nsukka Local Council Area, who contested in the primaries for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, his opponents, Emeka Asogwa, Charles Ugwu, Ezeugwu, Mrs. Ezinne O, and Ossy Peters.

Also included was senatorial aspirant from Oji River in Enugu West, Uche Emma Onyekwelu.

Senator Ugwuada Ezirigwe, elder brother to Okey Ugwuada Ezirigwe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Dr. Malachy Ugwu of the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja, also attended the meeting.
