Emir urges investments in food processing to reduce wastages
The Emir of Zuru, Maj-Gen. Muhammad Sani Sami (rtd) has appealed to the federal and state governments to find an alternative means of attracting investors in food processing to reduce wastages being experienced by the farmers in the country.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of Zuru Uhola 2019, Sami lamented that quite a number of tree crops and vegetables, as well as mango, guava, cashew, tomatoes, pepper and others are wasted or sold at give away prices during peak periods due to lack of processing facilities.
The emir also stressed the need for government to extend its support to farmers engaged in small and medium-scale production of crops, such as maize, guinea corn, soybeans, groundnut and beans.
In his speech, Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Samaila Yombe Dabai, commended the efforts of the organisers of the yearly festival in the emirate and appreciated the monarch for being a father to all and custodian of culture.In his remark, Chairman of the occasion, Senator Bala Ibn Nallah, said Uhola is an important yearly traditional festival of the people of the emirate.
