Embrace global trends in tackling security challenges, expert urges

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Halogen Security Limited, Mr. Wale Olaoye, has said unless the country develops its security capacities on all fronts in line with modern trends, it would be a tough task to grapple with national security challenges.

Olaoye, who made this disclosure at the recently held Securex Exhibition and Conference, said: “We need to develop capacities using the global trends in security technology such as device targeting in ransom takings and attacks on critical infrastructure like power, water and defense installations.

On technology, he said: “The world is more borderless and risk has moved from being tangible to intangible and as a nation, we must be prepared to attack the issues of today. Technology is the biggest driver of chaos today and its impact on security cannot be overstressed.

“With the mass movement to cloud technology, automation of man guard and interconnectivity of personnel, security poses more risk and more opportunities also to be harnessed.”

On the role of private security organisations in national security, Olaoye said security outfits are saddled with the management of risk .
