El-Rufai, Shehu Sani disagree over attack on constituency office
The senator representing Kaduna Central zone at the upper chamber, Shehu Sani has said the invasion of his constituency office by thugs was an assassination attempt on his life.
Meanwhile, Governor Nasir E-Rufai’s Political Adviser, Mallam Ubah Sani has exonerated the state government from the attack.
Sani, who spoke on the recent attack on his supporters and his suspension by the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that he narrowly escaped when the thugs who were armed with guns and other dangerous weapons invaded his office recently. He said the incident followed his suspension from the party.
According to him: “If they have said it is a blackmail, well the issue is now before the police. And I believe the security agencies will make the outcome of their investigation known. We have now engaged a competent lawyer to pursue this case to a logical conclusion.
“I have said it before that I have been in Kaduna even before any of them started knowing what is called justice. I engaged the military during their days. We confronted the Makarfi, Namadi Sambo, Yakowa and Yero administrations when they went wrong. And not for once has armed thugs been sent to me as it has been done in a country that is being presided by a party to which I belonged. Never has such thing happened to me.”
Senator Sani also warned against alleged anti-peoples policies of Governor El-Rufai. He said if the situation continued, the APC may loose the state to the opposition in the 2019 general election.
“If you look at the political equation of Kaduna, APC only has effective control of zone one and two. That is Zaria and Central. As for zone three (Southern Kaduna), it is still under the strong control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). And it is the only zone in north western Nigeria that is still having a PDP senator. Now, if the APC doesn’t put its house in order they are simply creating a ground for humiliation and defeat,” he said.
