The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, has dismissed rumours suggesting it sacked the institution’s Registrar, Mr. Daniel Adeyemo.

The Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Bakji, in a statement, said the Registrar was only directed by the Governing Council to embark on his accumulated leave, due since 2011.

While admitting that the Registrar had cases of alleged misconduct before the Governing Council, Bakji, however, exonerated the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Soremekun, noting that some of the cases of wrongdoing preceded the Vice Chancellor’s tenure.

“The Council’s decision was sequel to a petition earlier written against Mr. Adeyemo by three unions of the university. His current leave is to give the Council a free atmosphere to thoroughly investigate the allegations leveled against him in the said petition.

“Mr. Adeyemo currently enjoys all the benefits accruable to his office such as an official car and driver, official residence, as well as his salary duly paid, since he began the leave.”

Meanwhile, the leadership of a coalition of civil society activists has blamed authorities of the institution for not sensitising the public on the school’s achievements.
