Tension has been heightened in two towns in Ijero Local Government area of Ekiti State, as another Chief and Arisawe of Iroko Ekiti, Adewole Ajayi was murdered on Thursday inside his farm located at a neighboring town, Oke-Oro.

This incident occurred barely two weeks after the Onise of Odo Oro; Oba Gbadebo Ogunsakin was stabbed to death in his palace.

The development has pitted both towns against each other, causing tension and suspicion amongst indigenes of both towns.

Police of the Ijero Division however claim they are on the trail of one Dele Ojo Aro, a native of Oke Oro for murdering the chief and fleeing into the bush.

The deceased had gone to his farm at dawn on Thursday and found the suspect inside his farm stealing yams.

A witness, one Johnson Kayode , who spoke with journalists at Iroko Ekiti, alleged that the suspect went to the deceased’s farm to steal yams from where he shot the community leader in the hip while attempting to apprehend him.

Kayode added that the suspect after committing the offence disappeared and that he has not been seen by anyone in the town.

The traditional ruler of Iroko Ekiti, Oba Sunday Ekundayo who confirmed the incident said the Police have been contacted and that they have swung into action to fast track prompt arrest of the suspect.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Caleb Ikechukwu, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect has been reported to be a notorious thief terrorizing farms in recent times.
