THE partnership signed several years ago between the Egbema Gbaramatu Communities and Chevron Nigeria Limited in Delta State, known as Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU), has started yielding dividend.

The agreement, which led to the setting up of the Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation (EGCDF), has commissioned 14 projects worth over N244 million in Gbaramatu and Egbema communities in Warri South West and Warri North Local Councils.

Commissioning the projects which include river walkways, teachers’ quarters, solar-powered water scheme, guest houses, town hall, shoreline protection and sand-filling projects and two 200 horsepower passport 19 speed boats, the Executive Chairman, Egbema Gbaramatu Development Communities Foundation, Chief Michael Johnny, said the projects would meet the yearnings of the people.

He observed that since the inception of the GMoU the development foundation had embarked on people- oriented projects that would meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people. He commended leaders and members of the communities for providing the enabling environment for the smooth and peaceful operation of Chevron Nigeria Limited in the area.

The chairman frowned at the recent incidence of pipeline vandalism in Dibi Field, saying it could negatively impact the company’s entire operation and invariably affect everyone.

He equally urged the local, state and federal governments to intervene on the development needs of the oil rich communities.

Mr. Deji Haastrup, General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Chevron Nigeria Limited, represented by Mr. Oluwole Agubiagbe, said the achievement is another expression of the determination of the regional development committee to bring better life to people in the communities.
