EFCC’s Northeast zonal office convicts 41 persons
The Northeast zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed that it convicted 41 persons for corruption related cases out of 81 petitions it received between January and April.
Zonal Head of Operations, Michael Wetkas, stated this yesterday while briefing newsmen in Gombe.
“Between January and March 2019, the zonal office received 81 petitions of which 37 were convicted in court, while the remaining four were convicted in April 2019,” he said.
He assured that the EFCC would continued to work hard in the fight against corruption and expressed hope that with collective efforts, success will be achieved.
He said the agency also recovered over N55 million in cash and bank draft and property worth N18.8 million between January and March 2019.
Wetkas said during the 2019 general elections, eight persons, including a local government chairman and councilor were arrested for vote buying, adding that the councilor was convicted.
