Edo youths caution APC, Oshiomhole against imposition of candidate
Benin young leaders have raised the alarm over alleged imposition of candidate in Edo South senatorial district by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Expressing concern over the 2019 polls in Edo, particularly the senatorial election, the youths in a statement signed by Frank Ighodaro yesterday in Benin City, appealed to the new All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman to steer clear of Edo South politics.
The coalition, which comprised Bini young elite from the seven councils of Edo South, said Oshiomhole, being the APC chairman “has no business” in the decision-making process of APC in Edo South.
Urging the APC chairman to adopt his predecessor’s principle of non-interference, the youths noted that throughout John Odigie-Oyegun’s tenure as APC national chairman, he neither dictated nor interfered in the state’s politics.
According to them, the national party chairman can decide to heed their advice or lose the love and respect they have for him.
“The coalition is vehemently against the plans by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to intimidate and frustrate other Bini aspirants vying for the Edo South senatorial slot, in favour of his political loyalist,” they added.
