Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, yesterday urged political leaders in the state to play politics of development and not that of division.

He said the All progressives Congress (APC) has been recording electoral successes since 2007 as Action Congress (AC), then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and now APC because of the developmental programmes the party had embarked since coming to power in the state.

He stated this when he distributed empowerment materials which was part of his constituency project in his one year as a member of the House of Representatives before he became the deputy governor of Edo state. Some of the empowerment materials include tricycles, motorcycles, sewing machines and grounding machines which over five hundred people benefited.

Shaibu commended his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki for insisting that ward leaders would henceforth determine would be commissioners and special advisers in this administration adding that the people of the state are craving for development and not divisiveness.

According to Shaibu, “If you want to play politics play it the right way, I play politics of development and project, I don’t play politics of division.”

Those that want to play politics of division, this is a warning for you, play politics of development because our people wants projects and when you play politics of development, you can win and win and win.
“If you don’t build projects you cannot win. As we speak the first project that the Edo state government under Obaseki flagged off in Edo state is in Etsako West, the Agbede-Awai road. And I can assure everybody that the governor of Edo state will bring development across the state. Why I am explaining all these is that some people wants to play politics of division and it will not work”.

He further explained that “This empowerment was the one that I got from my first year in the House of Representatives before you people voted me in to become the Deputy Governor of Edo state. In another 30 days we will commissioning blocks of class rooms which I did while I was in the House of Representatives.
“I have always asked our constituents to choose the projects they want. When we look at it, constituency one has not been fortunate and that is why all of us must be very sensitive in choosing those that will represent us.

Those who represent the people of constituency one were never in line with the government at the center. Each time our people asked them to represent them they go to Benin and start fighting the governor and there is no way you will progress in your constituency with situations like that. While I was building my constituency projects, some people were fighting Oshiomhole,” he stated.
