Traffic and commercial activities were paralysed for several hours in Abakaliki yesterday, following a peaceful protest by angry youths, who took to the streets to mourn the death of eight All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters in auto crash. They were on their way to witness the Appeal Court judgment on the state governorship election when they had the accident.

The youths blamed the governorship aspirant of Labour Party ( LP} in the last governorship election, Chief Edward Nkwegu, for their their death.

The youths, who stormed the streets as early as 7am, carried placards with inscriptions: ‘Put down your guns Mr. Edon, ‘Enough is enough,’ among others. They stopped at government house Abakaliki to register their grievances.

In his speech, leader of the youths and Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State chapter, Elder Samuel Igwe said, ‘’No doubt, every mortal will die one day, but the situation where these youths had to be sacrificed on the altar of political desperation is unacceptable to the Ebonyians.”
