Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has denied running a killer squad or engaging in activities to intimidate the opposition.

This followed an allegation by the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eze Nwachukwu that the governor was behind the insecurity in the state.

In a statement shortly after a meeting, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, said the APC should carry out issue-based campaigns, rather than upbraid him and engage in other forms of aspersions.

He said: “Governor David Umahi is very busy with his developmental projects of repositioning the state and making it a modern state. He is therefore not distracted by careless and irresponsible vituperation from unfortunate political jobbers parading themselves as opposition.

“From all available records, Umahi has rescued the state from the fangs of poverty and underdevelopment and has never been found wanting in the discharge of his official duties.

“Pastor Nwachukwu, who is a factional chairmen of APC in Ebonyi State is notorious for his lies and penchant for seeking cheap publicity. Unfortunately, this one has hit the woodwork as it has failed to attract the sentiment he sought for.

Umahi said there is nothing like killer squad as he said, even though he was merely voicing out his frustration, especially after losing grip of the party at the state.

He added that Nwachukwu migrated to Abuja to engage in systematic political alms-begging to survive, and he feels the only way to do that is to go from one office to the other to cast aspersions on the hardworking governor.

Nwachukwu had made the allegation when he led some party chieftains on a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

While urging the APC chiefs to accommodate all in their fold, the SGF said it was not impossible for the governor to join the APC at a latter time.

“With President Buhari’s declaration to run for 2019 elections, there are several people who are knocking and it is high time that we open our doors and even evoke our provisional constitutions that would allow them to come in.”
