Early morning rain floods Lagos
The heavy downpour, which started around 4:30a.m. yesterday morning flooded most part of Lagos metropolis and key business districts.
Vehicles were practically floating on water while those walking, barely managed to find their way through the flooded roads as early risers defied the rain to be at respective places of work, while downpour lasted several hours.
The areas affected included Awolowo Way in Ikeja, Ojota/Maryland bridge and Ikorodu road. The flooding was as a result of blockage of the drainage system within the area.
However, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Babatunde Adejare, yesterday read the riot acts to cain weavers under Ojota Bridge to operate with a sense of responsibilities or risk relocation from the area.
Adajare gave the charge while fielding questions from journalists on the early morning rain that flooded Ojota bridge and some parts of Ikorodu road. The visibly angry commissioner alleged that the cain weavers had earlier blocked the drain where the water from the bridge was to discharge into the main collector under the bridge with concrete, leaving the bridge and the road flooded.
