DSS parades B’Haram leader Al-Barnawi’s deputy, impersonators of govt officials
The Department of State Services (DSS) yesterday paraded the supposed deputy to top Boko Haram leader, Khalid Al-Barnawi, along with four other suspected impersonators of government officials and prominent Nigerians.
He is Bello Danhajiya, a Fulani from Zamfara State, described as an accomplice to Al-Barnawi.
According to a statement by Garba Abdulahi, the suspect was involved in cattle rustling, gun running and other criminal activities all on Al-Barnawi’s order.
The statement further said that: “In another development, the DSS, worried by the spate of impersonation of government officials and the increasing rate of defrauding of unsuspecting members of the public by some unscrupulous elements, launched detailed investigations aimed at checking the situation.
“This has led to the arrest of the following suspects: Aminu Ado (a.k.a Yusha’u Muhammed Yerima Adam) who was arrested in Keffi Nasarawa State. He confessed to defrauding Lt. Gen T.Y. Danjuma of N1 million in 2015 and the wife of Akwa Ibom State governor of N300,000 in collaboration with one Hajia Aisha, who impersonated the wife of former Gombe State Governor, Danjuma Goje.
“He also confessed to defrauding some other people by presenting himself as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the President. Further investigation revealed that Ado had the mobile phone numbers of all the Federal Executive Council (FEC) members, some state governors, their wives and aides as well as that of prominent Nigerians and military/police officers.
“David Michika, 43-year old from Jimeta, Adamawa State was arrested in Kano for impersonating the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). He had called several top ranking government officials soliciting for funds to settle spiritualists (Mallams) for prayers rendered for the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 general election and for peace in the nation.
