Lagos, June 2,2015(NAN)A 28 -year-old driver, Emmanuel Awah, on Tuesday appeared before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with stealing a Tutong luxury bus valued at N14million.

Awah of No.14, Graceland Estate, Ajah in Lagos State , is facing a charge of stealing a bus from the Labour City Transport Services Ltd.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Benedict Aigbokhim, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 7 at the premises of the Labour City Transport Services Ltd, Muritala Muhammed Way,Yaba in Lagos.

He said that the bus with Reg. No : AKD 323 XL; Code No. L013, was parked in front of the office where the accused stole it.

“One of the company’s staff-members sighted the bus at Ajah in a mechanic workshop where they were trying to paint it into another colour from its original one as well as changed its number plate.

“The staff member had to call the operation manager.

“The operation manager reported the case at the police station and the accused was arrested,” Aigbokhim said.

The offence, he said, contravened Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 (7) provides seven years’ imprisonment for stealing.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum and she adjourned the case till June 24 for substantive trial.
