The Department of Petroleum Resource (DPR), yesterday, uncovered two underground depots in Mubi-South Local Council, near Cameroun border, in Adamawa State.

The state’s Acting Controller of DPR, Dr. Laminga Mohammed, who led the team in search of illegal filling stations, entered an incomplete building designed like a filling station in Monduva village, and was shocked to discover that underground tanks were buried with petroleum products worth over 200,000 litres in two different locations.

Mohammed, who ordered his team to remove the water pump machines the smugglers use to syphon fuel from the underground tanks and the generating set, said DPR might soon consider banning location of filling stations near borders to check economic sabotage.

Also, in a warehouse near one of the incomplete filling station in Monduva village, over 300,000,50 litres of jerry cans filled with fuel were stockpiled waiting to be taken to Cameroun at night.

He called for cooperation from the public, pointing out that smugglers’ activities were a direct attack on the country’s economic prosperity.

In another incomplete two-room building with a sign post,” DPR Approved Filling Station, A.A .J Wadili Nigeria Limited,” over 200,000 jerry cans filled with fuel were discovered behind the building.

Mohammed said the raid would continue until those behind the criminal business repent from what he described as coordinated evil against Nigerians.
