Former Prelate of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Sunday Ola Makinde, has warned parents against degradation of the girl-child, saying both sexes should be treated equally.

The cleric gave the counsel in a sermon he delivered at the funeral service of the late Mrs. Augusta Oladipo, mother-in-law to the Presiding Bishop, Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Dr. Francis Wale Oke.

Makinde maintained that the culture that undermined the girl child was primitive and archaic, hence it should be discarded.

Saying that the testimonies given about the life of the ‎deceased showed that she was a substance that added value to others, the erstwhile prelate stressed that “the girl-child is not inferior in any way to her male counterpart.”

“Why should we then relegate the girl child to the background? he queried.
