Don’t be discouraged by poll’s results, Jegede tells supporters

•Alabi, indigenes task Akeredolu on development

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, has appealed to his supporters not to be discouraged by the outcome of last Saturday’s election.

Jegede, who made the appeal in Akure when he hosted his supporters from across the state, promised them of better days ahead.His running mate, John Ola Mafo and other party chieftains attended the meeting.

Among them were the party’s Publicity Secretary, Banji Okunomo, the coordinator of the Eyitayo Volunteer Group (EVG), Olumide Ogunkua and Debo Ologunagba.

Jegede told his supporters that although the outcome of the election was not envisaged, he was proud to have been widely accepted by the people across the state.He expressed his appreciation to all those who contributed to his efforts in the face of glaring gang-up against his candidacy.

Meanwhile, Ondo State Eminent Persons Group (OSEGP) has urged Akeredolu to constitute a team to rescue the state from bad governance. The National President of the group, Banji Alabi, said in a statement that Akeredolu could not fail because the people were expecting so much from him.

The group however, lauded the out-going Governor Olusegun Mimiko for his contributions to the state.According to Alabi: “Mimiko has paid his dues, having served the state as a former Commissioner for Health, Secretary to the State Government, a minister and two-term governor.” He urged Akeredolu to follow the path of the late Obafemi Awolowo who developed the entire southwest, adding that he must chart a new course that would transform the state.

Also, an Ekiti State-based businessman, Mr. Kolawole Alabi, urged Akeredolu to be a governor for all, those who voted for him and those who voted against him. He said the people’s belief in him and democracy was responsible for his success at the polls.

He said Akeredolu’s victory was a sign that the people have confidence in the change agenda of the APC.Alabi also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the various security agencies, corps members and the electorate for ensuring a hitch-free poll.
