Don’t allow dictatorial government in Nigeria, Ozekhome charges Nigerians
A human rights activist and constitutional lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), has charged Nigerians, irrespective of their creed, not to allow dictatorial government to reign in the country.
He bemoaned the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for suppressing people’s freedom of speech and human rights, saying that Nigerians now talk in whispers because they are afraid to freely express themselves in public.
Ozekhome spoke during his induction as the first National Grand Patron of the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) yesterday in Abuja.
According to him, under such dictatorial government we have impunity, cronyism, nepotism, prebendalism, favoritism, repression, suppression of opposition, deliberate violation of human rights and gross disobedience to court orders, adding that corruption had risen not just arithmetically but geometrically and insecurity engulfing the country.
He said: “We must not allow dictatorship because dictatorship will come just in military or khaki uniform. It could also come steadily like a thief in the night in the form or in the guise of democracy and that is what we called pseudo-democracy”.
