A Professor of Agricultural Economics at the Michael Opkara University of Agriculture, Abia State, Uzochukwu Onyebinama, has attributed the current scarcity of grains to non-establishment of well-funded Grains Demographic Productivity Centre by government.

He, therefore, called for the establishment of such a centre for food security and employment opportunities for the youths.

Onyebinama, at a pre-inauguration lecture in Ohii, Owerri West Local Council, Imo State, noted that countries such as China have grains demographic productivity centre and are reaping the benefits.

Onyebinama said the topic of the lecture, ‘Diversifying Nigeria’s Economy Through Agriculture’, was imperative in view of the geometrical rate of unemployment especially among youths.

Besides advising entrepreneurs to be risk takers, he emphasised the need to have innovative minds, while governments at all levels should create enabling environment for young people to be self-employed.

He offered to write and produce bankable proposals for any youth willing to have one.
