Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, yesterday warned against any move to impose the leadership of the Ninth National Assembly.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, yesterday warned against any move to impose the leadership of the Ninth National Assembly.

Dogara, who chaired the induction session of returning and new members in Abuja, said history was replete with how interventions by external forces boomeranged.

Apparently referring to the adoption by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as Senate President and Speaker, the Bauchi lawmaker urged political parties to allow members elect their preferred choices for the leadership positions in the National Assembly.

He said: “I am not here to dictate to parties. The parties have their manifestos and they know how to conduct their businesses. But one thing I have said is that it is always better to allow the leadership of the National Assembly to emerge based on the choices of members.”
