Ondo State doctors, under the aegis of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), have embarked on a two-week warning strike, lamenting that their welfare was neglected by the state government.

Ondo State doctors, under the aegis of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), have embarked on a two-week warning strike, lamenting that their welfare was neglected by the state government.

They alleged that the government had failed to pay their salary arrears for some months and resolve the issue of exodus of doctors and other health workers, among other sundry issues.

A letter signed and made available to journalists in Akure, yesterday, by NAGGMDP state Chairman, Dr. Roland Arohunmolase and Secretary, Dr. Richard Obe, directed all members to embark on strike.

The letter, which was also sent to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, titled: “Notice of withdrawal of service,” stated: “With due respect, we write to notify your office of the immediate withdrawal of service by our members working under Ondo State Government Civil Service.

“Following the general meeting of the association held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, members resolved to proceed on a two-week warning strike starting from 8:00 a.m. on June 10, 2021.”

He stressed that members of the association had been taken for granted for too long, lamenting that their emotional intelligence was also badly affected.

The doctors expressed hope that the governor would do the needful in addressing the grievances contained in their letter.
