Divide Nigeria and let’s renegotiate our unity— Emerging Leaders

Participants at the Preparing Emerging Leaders Conference in Kaduna State have called for the division and renegotiation of Nigeria’s unity.

The participants, majorly students from various institutions across the country, met at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, to discuss how to move the country forward.

They identified population explosion and poor resources, ethno-religious sentiments, tribalism, corruption, poverty and lack of quality education, among factors militating against Nigeria.

One of them, from Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, Oduh Sunday Oduh suggested that Nigeria as a nation should go back to the drawing board and renegotiate its unity.

He noted that some ethnic groups are categorised as minority and were never given opportunity to voice their opinions on happenings in the country.

Oduh lamented that: “Nigerians are only pretending to be together, while they are not. Our political atmosphere has not provided scientific leaders. Minority groups are not given opportunities in this country.”

Another participant, Bashir Aderogba from Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, said Nigerians have no tolerance for one another.

While identifying themselves as reflection of Nigeria as a nation, the emerging leaders, however, resolved to develop a document on transformation of the Nigeria, which will subsequently be presented to the National Assembly for deliberations.
