The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) yesterday called on its youths worldwide to disregard the handover to a factional leadership of the body by former Bayelsa State Commissioner for Ijaw National Affairs and a former President of IYC, Felix Tuodolor.

A statement by its spokesman, Henry Iyala, cautioned that the said handover, which was allegedly orchestrated by its former President and the Bayelsa State government, was an invitation to anarchy and a mockery of the IYC constitution.

The statement said the immediate past President of the IYC, Udengs Eradiri had handed over its leadership to Eric Omare since March, 2017 as the law required.“The attention of the national leadership has been drawn to a handover to a factional leadership of the IYC by former Bayelsa State Commissioner for Ijaw Affairs and former IYC President, Felix Tuodolor and some officials of the Bayelsa State Government.

“We urge Ijaw youths and members of the public to disregard the purported handover as it was nothing but a mockery of the IYC constitution and processes.“The immediate past President of the IYC, Udengs Eradiri had handed over the leadership of the IYC to Eric Omare since March, 2017. And it is customary in the IYC just like similar organisations for the past President and leader to handover to his successor,” the statement said.

It called on the Ijaw nation to disregard the factional leadership, which Tuodolor handed over to while restating their call on Ijaw youths to be peaceful no matter the level of provocation.

The crisis rocking the Ijaw youth body took a dangerous dimension after the Omare led executives rejected the decision taken in Abuja by the Chief Joshua Fumudoh-led Ijaw Eminent Persons Committee (EPC).The committee, which was set up by Governor Dickson to resolve the crisis, had sworn-in the Roland Pereotubo-led executive at Chief Edwin Clark’s residence in Abuja.

But in a swift reaction, the Omare-led executive said such pseudo arrangement by Clark and Dickson has further caused division among the Ijaw youths.
