Experts have said Nigeria requires a diplomatic approach to end its economic crisis.

They opined that the federal government should engage in pragmatic negotiation with the view to finding solution to the problems in the country.

The experts gave the submission at the 2017 Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management (CIPDM) Trainig and Induction Lecture held at the Nigerian Institute of medical Research Lagos, as over 250 fellows were inducted.

In his address, the Registrar of CIPDM, Victor Oshioluemoh said, diplomacy is key to national development as it involves negotiations with the government and the aggrieved groups to arrive at a solution.

He said the issue of Boko haram sect, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other agitators would not have escalated if only the government had applied diplomatic approach to negotiate and resolve the issues.

“If the government had tackled the issue of Boko haram early using diplomacy, it would not have escalated to this, the FG has to sit down to discuss things with these groups and until they begin to imbibe the instrument of diplomacy we would continue to have crisis,” he stressed.

He added that the government should apply cultural diplomacy in resolving the cultural differences, which have resulted to killings, as it would promote peaceful co-exeistence in the country.

Also speaking, the Dean, school of Post Graduate Studies, University of Lagos (UNILAG), who doubled as the chairman of the occasion, Prof. Solomon Akinboye said, Nigeria, at this point in time needs restructuring as a solution to end the economic crisis.
“It is necessary, compulsory and mandatory to restructure the Nigerian state, it does not mean it would lead to separation, its just for us to come together and negotiate our state of being,” he said.

In his presentation titled: “Analyzing the Theory of Diplomacy through management to attain Organisational Objectives”, Dr Oyewole Sarumi, a fellow of CIPDM, said the country’s leadership lacks ethics and timing to negotiate, adding that no politician should be voted for based on their m,anifestoes as it is part of the constitution which they must fulfill, adding that people should vote for them based on what they can deliver.

He, however, urged, Nigerians, to vote wisely, as leadership remains one of the problems of Nigeria.
