Dickson offers automatic employment to 104 first class graduates

NDU names senate building, road after governor
Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has offered automatic employment to 104 first class graduates of the state-owned Niger Delta University (NDU) at its 5th convocation ceremony at the weekend.

However, the NDU has named its ultra modern Senate building and the newly constructed dual carriage road within the institution after Dickson.

The beneficiaries include 13 best graduating students of the different faculties of the institution, which convoked 15,853 graduates of which 91 made first class honours.

He explained that the directive was in conformity with his administration’s policy of absorbing first class students into the civil service.

Dickson stressed that in future deliberate investments should serve as a catalyst to reposition the economy of the state beyond oil and gas.
 
His words, “Our mission is to envision a future for our people beyond oil and gas because as you all know this environment more than those outside, oil and gas are wasting assets. Technology is even overtaking its usefulness.

“Our future, a sustainable future for Bayelsa, Ijaw Nation, Niger Delta and even Nigeria is to envision a society and economy beyond oil and gas, which in my view, should be based on investments in education, expanding the frontiers of education, building more schools and not get tired of it.”

He said the state government’s desire was to attract the world to Bayelsa, to attend its schools, insisting that the state needed more schools.

The governor pointed out that the state should strive to make itself a hub for educational tourism just as he admonished that Bayelsa should be key participant in a non-oil future economy.
