Democracy Day: Enugu frees 25 prison inmates

To commemorate the first anniversary of June 12, Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi pardoned twenty-five inmates of Enugu, Nuskka and Oji River Correctional Centers.

To commemorate the first anniversary of June 12, Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi pardoned twenty-five inmates of Enugu, Nuskka and Oji River Correctional Centers.

Secretary to the State government, Simon Ortuanya, disclosed that their pardon was sequel to the recommendation of the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, and in exercise of the powers conferred on the governor. Those that benefitted are Egwu Chukwuebuka, Anthony Ejiogu, Chibuzo Ugwu, Ikechukwu Elom, Ejike Anigbo, Ozioma Onuegbu, Chukwu Francis, Ifebuche Nwafor, Nnaji Uchenna, Sunday Michael, Kingsley Onyebuchi, Ikechukwu Ogbu, Chinonso Obinna, Godwin Nwafor, Onuh Emmanuel, Oluchukwu Nwobodo, Ebuka Ozoemena, Nwaokoro Ikechukwu and Bitrus Destiny. Others are Ejike Solomon Eke, Odo Sunday, Ede Ekene, Itodo Chiegonu and Ifeanyi Azegbe, for Nsukka Correctional Centre, and Obi Simon.

Also, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, yesterday, said democracy was people-centered and his government puts the people first in everything they do. 

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nweze, he called for greater collaboration and synergy between the people and government, stressing that faith, courage, team spirit, and patriotism are critical drivers for its actualisation.

He said in the last five years of his administration, significant milestones have been recorded and more are in the offing.
