Delta police restrict vehicular movement for January 6 council poll

Protect your votes, APC charges electorate
The Delta State Police Command has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement in the state from 6am -3pm to ensure a hitch-free council election scheduled for Saturday, January 6, 2018.

Outgoing Commissioner of Police (CP), Zanna Ibrahim, gave the order yesterday, saying that only those on official and emergency duties with valid means of identification and electorate with permanent voters’ cards, would be allowed movement within their areas during while the restriction order lasts.

While noting that the order was a security measure to check movement of mischief-makers and thugs, he warned that any person or group of persons that foment trouble during the exercise would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The CP, therefore, advised politicians and their supporters to adhere strictly to the electoral provisions and avoid any conducts capable of causing a break down of law and order before, during and after the elections.While regretting the inconvenience the order would cause commuters passing through the state, Ibrahim enjoined them to take alternative routes or have other contingency plans.

Meanwhile, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isoko South Local Council have been charged to protect their votes and remain at their polling stations throughout election period to ensure that their votes count during Saturday’s council election in the state.State chairman of the party, Jones Erue, gave the charge during its campaign rally held at Isoko Central School (ICS), Oleh.

He commended the party members for their large turnout and urged them to remain committed during the election period. He assured them of the National Executive’s readiness to support them towards the success of the council election.He said, “We are prepared for the coming local government election from National as the police and army will provide security throughout the period of election”.

The rally was attended by Dr. Ogaga Ifowodo, Joe Arausi, Lucky Esije, Silas Bowei, Benjamin Essien, Benjamin Efekodo and Lucky Okperi both former members of the Delta State House of Assembly.

Speaking earlier, APC Chairman in Isoko South Local Council, John Urete, also assured of the party’s preparedness for the election and urged party members to resist thugs and embrace peace even as they present APC candidates for the poll.
