Delta harps on security consciousness among corps members

The Delta State government has urged corps members in the state to embrace security consciousness and be mindful of peaceful environment as conducive measures to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the state governor who gave the advice in Issele-Uku while addressing the “Batch B” stream II corps members who were leaving the orientation camp after three weeks of mandatory training, disclosed that the state government is not unaware of its responsibilities to the corps members as it will continue to do everything within it limited resources to enhance their well being.

The governor represented by the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Engr. Jude Sinebe, implored government agencies and other employers of corps to accept and make proper use of their services posted to them, adding that it was on record that their predecessors in service in the state left indelible marks via concrete beneficial projects executed in their host communities.

Dr. Okowa explained that the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme of the NYSC which the corps members have been exposed to during their orientation course, had remained deliberate strategy in the fight against unemployment, adding that as part of their tasks, they should mentor the younger ones on the right values that will steer them in the right direction.

His words: “As corps members follow the footsteps of your predecessors to be part of the vanguard whenever you are called upon in the course of the service year” and warned them against hostilities that will jeopardize their service.

Earlier, the State Co-Ordinator, Mr. Ayodele Omotade said in line with the extent posting policy of the NYSC to four critical areas of Education, Health, Agriculture and Infrastructure, the management of NYSC has carried out the posting of the corps members to meet the yearning and aspirations of the people of the state in the four areas and charged the corps members not to see their postings as punitive, but as a means of contributing their quotas to the development of the country and Delta State.
