Defence chief charges naval officers to eradicate miscreants in Niger Delta

Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin, has charged Naval officers in Rivers State to channel their strength towards total eradication of miscreants from the state.

Olonisakin also urged them to use everything within their capacity to dislodge sea pirates and ensure waterways are safe. Represented by the Naval Chief of Staff, Vice admiral, Ibok Ekwe Ibas, Olonisakin gave the charge, yesterday, at the Navy School, Onne, during the passing out ceremony and presidential commissioning of 141 cadets of direct short-service course.

The Defence Chief also implored newly officers, consisting of 11 medical consultants and other professions, to contribute their quota towards development of the country by providing adequate security. “ I urge you to put all what you have learnt here into a good use and also endeavour to work hand-in-hand with other sister agencies in order to duly dispense your duty, “ he said.

Also speaking, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, who was represented by his Commissioner for Special Duties, Sheye Oladejo, said services by the officers would uplift the country’s security challenge.

Also, the Chairman Senate Committee on Navy, senator Isah Hamma Misau, advised the newly commissioned officers to be disciplined and be apolitical.
