Deepening market presence with product extension
AS part of initiatives to mark the 60th anniversary of Peak milk in Nigeria and to increase consumers’ options of quality dairy products, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, has launched ‘Peak Wazobia’ and a range of other low unit portion packs (LUPP) of Peak and Three Crowns evaporated and powdered milk.
In a press statement in Lagos, the company’s Managing Director, Rahul Colaco, said, “This pillar focuses on issues of malnutrition which is also a growing national concern. We believe that with daily consumption of milk through increased accessibility of quality dairy nutrition, consumers have the opportunity of getting up to 50% of the nutrients that they require daily, which the body cannot make on its own.”
At the launch of the product last week, Prof. Ebenezer Ojefitimi, a Community Health Nutrition & Nutrition Consultant, gave a presentation on, ‘The Role of Dairy in Promoting Nutrition: A Public Health Perspective’. He highlighted the significant benefits of quality nutrition in preventing issues of malnutrition across all life stages and economic groups.
According to Ojeifitimi, malnutrition is the leading cause of death among children under five years. He said Nigeria failed to achieve two important goals of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) due to low emphasis being laid on the uniqueness of dairy and its products during antenatal and infant welfare.
Ojeifitimi said the importance of dairy product consumption could not be over emphasized, as dairy plays a key role in treating under nutrition; provides high quality protein and micronutrients in an easily absorbed form; facilitates adequate growth in height; guarantees a healthy adequate diet and promotes stronger bones and skeletal posture, to mention a few.
