The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized two containers of animal skins worth N15 billion and meant for export.

Comptroller of FOU Zone A, Ikeja, Aliyu Mohammed, yesterday said the hides were being dried when his men swooped on them.

Although, he did not disclose the area where the offensive items were discovered, Mohammed however stated that investigation was ongoing to arrest those behind the illegal trade.

Also seized were drugs and 29 exotic cars.

He said: “We have seized the skin in two containers. As you can see, this is massive. One can only imagine how many donkeys have been killed to have this large number of skins. .

“We didn’t see the meat and it is possible they are being sold out to people as beef. As customs officers, we are going beyond duty collection to protect lives.”
