Concerned about the rising cases of coronavirus in Nigeria, Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic in Lagos has commissioned and handed over water tanks to the Lagos State Government to promote hand washing across the councils to curb the spread of the pandemic.

The club, through its COVID-19 Water Tank Project, led by Gboyega Bada, donated several 500-litre and 1000-litre water tanks to various departments of the state and local governments to promote hand washing habits and promote personal hygiene culture in communities.

According to the President, Dr. Sunit Deb Roy, the club has been worried about the growing cases of coronavirus; hence the decision to contributed to efforts at curtailing its spread, with the support of Geepee Tanks Nigeria Limited and Chellaram Plc, who provided the water tanks.

Rotary District 9110 Governor, Dr. Jide Akeredolu, congratulated the club and the Lagos State Government for the fight against coronavirus, adding that the club has been coming out with innovative projects that directly impact various facets of the community.

Commending the project, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu appreciated the club and the donors for deeming it fit to be part of the fight in the state, adding that the most important part of the protocol of fighting the virus is hand washing.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Director, Local Government and Community Affairs, Sherifah Ewumi-Dosumu, stressed that the donation would go a long way in eradicating COVID-19, assuring that the items would be judiciously used and spread out across the LCDAs in the state.

“The placement of the tanks will be strategic in public places, like markets, hospitals and others and we will ensure that long after COVID-19 must have been conquered, the habit of hand washing would have been well instilled and be a continuous practice among the people of Lagos State,” he noted.
